koinonia at the movies

summer 2017

This summer, as you can see, koinonia is at the movies.  That’s right, all summer long we are going to take a look and one of the most popular and influential ways that our culture speaks, and it’s through movies.  One of our goals here in Student Ministry is to equip you as a high school student to be able to engage the culture around you.  We weren’t created to run off and separate ourselves into some kind of holy club and just leave the world to itself.  We want to engage, so we are going to look all summer at how to engage with culture.  We really have three choices: receive, redeem or reject.

We aren’t meant to consume entertainment without our minds.  We want to keep the light switch on and even more importantly, use our mind - connected with our faith - to engage and interpret what we see and hear.  So, we have done our best to choose some movies - some familiar and some maybe not - with messages for you to engage with.  We aren’t endorsing these movies, but we are going to critically engage with them each week in a time of discussion.  If you’d like to read up on them with your family beforehand, that is encouraged.

We’ll meet in the theater of the Student Center on the dates below from 6:30-9:30 pm. On June 28th and July 12th, we’ll even plan a “koinonia after party” and go out for a late night excursion (ending at 10:30 those two weeks).  If you are a part of Mission Training, then just plan on staying and we’ll feed you dinner before koinonia starts for $3.  And as always, be thinking of friends you can invite to come with you!

Koinonia will NOT be meeting July 5th or August 2nd
