Love and Other Stuff – Week 2

Love and Other Stuff

2 – Do you really love me?

2/18/18 (MS)

Jesus said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

Lust is selfish.  Love is selfless.

“Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.  But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

love is a feeling, but deeper than that, love is a commitment.

WHAT IS LUST?

  • Lust is about things.
  • Lust is a feeling.
  • Lust is selfish.

Lust is selfish. Love is selfless.

Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him.  They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.  But that isn’t what you learned about Christ.” (Ephesians 4: 18-20)

STEP 1: Come Clean.

STEP 2: Get help!

STEP 3: Embrace God’s Grace.

STEP 4: Set Up Boundaries.

“So if your eye – even your good eye – causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.  And if your hand – even your stronger hand – causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” (Matthew 5:29-30)
