Brainwashed – Week 2

Brainwashed                                                                                                                           2 – New Thinking                                                                                                        10/15/17 (MS)

Theme verse: “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” – Romans 12:2

Week 1 Summary: There is no gray.

“God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 5:20-21

“Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?” …“All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”…“Who’s left to condemn you?”  She says, ‘No one, sir.’  ‘Neither do I.  Go and sin no more.’”– John 8:4-11

“My guilt overwhelms me. It is a burden too heavy to bear.  My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins… I am exhausted and completely crushed.  My groans come from an anguished heart.” – Psalm 32:3-8

Don’t be brainwashed into thinking…

 1.  God doesn’t love you.

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” – Romans 5:8

2.  You can give God 90% of your heart.

And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.” – Romans 5:9-10

3.  You can’t be forgiven for what you’ve done.

“So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” – Romans 5:11

>> NO GOD LOVES ME (REVEAL: Know God loves me)                                                      >> I CAN’T BE FORGIVEN (REVEAL: I am forgiven)                                                          >> KEEP THINGS IN THE DARK (REVEAL: Keep nothing in the dark)

 “…those who become Christians become new persons…” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
