“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!”                    1 Corinthians 9:24

“Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb. They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.” John 20:1-10

God wants you to run after Him, to chase after truth. And He wants you to know for yourself who Jesus is what Jesus has done for you.

1. Run with your head
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”     Romans 12:2

2. Run with your heart
“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”  Psalm 63:1

“Taste and see that the Lord is good…”  Psalm 34:8

3. Run to His Word

“Study to show yourself approved unto God…”  2 Timothy 2:15

This year I am going to run—spiritually—every day!  I am going to run to know God for myself, and to believe in the love and grace of Jesus, not because of what someone else says, but because I’ve experienced it!

Discussion Questions:

  1. What do you like about “new”?
  2. Have you done resolutions before? If so, what are they for this year?
  3. Who have been the people in your life that have influenced your faith?  Do you feel like your faith is your own? Why or why not?
  4. “God is so sure that once you experience the life He has to offer, you won’t want to stop living for Him.” Do you agree or disagree? Why?
  5. What are some practical ways you can run after Jesus for yourself this New Year?
