The Talk: Week 2
Looking for Landmines
You can’t build a life of purity on a foundation of lies.
ms student + hormones + confusing messages + sexual landmines = potential destruction
“Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
Landmine 1: Lust
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God…” – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
Lust is: a sexual desire that dishonors its object and disregards God.
“Temptation [You could put lust in here] comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.” – James 1:14-15
“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.” – Job 31:1
Landmine 2: Pornography
“You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” – Matthew 5:27-28
“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust. Follow anything that makes you want to do right. Pursue faith and love and peace, and enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.” – 2 Timothy 2:22
Landmine 3: Sexual Impurity
“Our bodies were not made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:13
- Investigate God’s plan for purity
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” – John 10:10
- Search for God’s wisdom
“When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father.” – Ephesians 3:14
- Enjoy God’s hope
“So I pray that God, who gives you hope, will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe in him.” – Romans 15:13
