Change of Heart: Week 1

Change of Heart
1 – Identity Change
1/11/15 (MS)
Key Scripture:
“And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart…” – Ezekiel 11:19
“Now you’re no longer a slave but God’s own child and since you are His child everything He has belongs to you.” – Galatians 4:7
“You are children of God through faith in Christ.” – Galatians 3:26
If you believe you belong.
1.  God changes your identity
moved from creation to child.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation.  The old has gone, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
2.  God changes your eternity
…from total separation from God to connection with God forever.
“For God so loved the word that He gave His only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life.  God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it but to save it.” –  John 3:16-17
3.  God changes your desires.
“If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death.  But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace.” – Romans 8:6
“So, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation whatsoever to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you keep on following it, you will perish.  But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you turn from it and its evil deeds, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” – Romans 8:12-14
1. Fight the lies
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32
“Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex.  Your workmanship is marvelous and how well I know it.  You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion.  As I was woven together in the dark of the womb, you saw me before I was born.  Every day of my life was recorded in your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” – Psalm 139:14-15
2. Feed on truth
“It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4
3. Find family friends
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work…” – Ecclesiastes 4:9
